The Pharmacist will assist medical staff in the care and treatment of patients in the Al Roj primary healthcare clinic in Derik by maintaining the medical inventory, dispensing medications to patients, and educating patients on proper usage of medications. The Pharmacist will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of care as they help treat patients. He/She will collaborate with medical logistics for securing high quality medications, preparation of medications transport, and organization of medications and appropriate dispensing of medication to patients. At times the Pharmacist may be called upon to fulfill duties not directly involved with this job description.
The Pharmacist will report to the Medical Coordinator who will guide and supervise the functional role of the pharmacist. This position requires a detail-oriented person with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, strong understanding of pharmaceuticals and ability to work in challenging contexts. Excellent command of Microsoft Word and Excel systems is required.
Hours :
40+ hours/wk (field time expected)
Develop pharmaceutical tracking systems suitable for the clinic.
• Estimate medications and medical supplies required for clinic operational based on reasonable consumption rates.
• Work with the program coordinator and medical logistics to secure adequate supplies of medicines and medical supplies.
• Monitor the consumption of medicines and medical material on a daily basis. Observe any deviations, over or underutilization, expiration, thefts, losses.
• Generate reports periodically to inform the management about the status of the medicines and medical material.
• Initiate purchase requests well in advance for an uninterrupted supply.
• Communicates respectfully and effectively with providers.
• Restock medications and supplies in coordination with medical logistics.
• Verifies medication orders for dosing accuracy, drug interactions, and contraindications.
• Safely dispenses and administers medications according to medical doctor’s orders.
• Work with medical doctor to provide quality patient education related to medications and discharge instructions.
• Assess educational needs of patients and clinic staff related to medications.
• Cares for patients with a kind and respectful manner.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience Needed
• Pharmacist with certification to practice in Syria.
• Experience as community pharmacist.
• Knowledge to counsel and educate patients regarding medications.
• Experience in low-resource setting.
