The WASH Monitor will work under the direction and supervision of the WASH Program Assistant. S/he will assess project activities and follow up water safety management plans in line with other organization’s water and sanitation activities (WASH). S/he will need to regularly implement and communicate with hygiene promotion teams, Engineering team to ensure the effective, day-to-day implementation of WASH activities in selected project locations. 

 

Field Implementation

  • Monitor and support the participation, ownership, and inclusiveness of community members in decision-making regarding water, sanitation, hygiene awareness and evaluation of activities related to the project.

  • Follow up and implementation of water safety management plans.

  • assessing supply – water tankers, people owning water fetching points, water stations.

  • WASH Assessment in schools and Mapping.

  • Day to day activity progress and report to the Program Assistant.

  • Encouraging continuous participation in the sector works and assisting the local community in addressing water problems.            

  • Considering the diversity of society and the necessity of the principle of equality between men and women and the implementation of activities in a way that reflects the needs of groups and individuals such as women, elderly, children and the disabled.

  • Conduct water quality tests (Turbidity -FRC-TDS-PH) or any similar tests to ensure the quality of water after the organization’s interventions in terms of improving water quality in targeted areas.

  • Participate in the development of information, education and communication (IEC) materials relevant to the context; with appreciation of cultural norms and beliefs.

  • Assist in the design, implementation and monitoring of WASH activities to ensure all activities reflect the needs of specific groups and individuals e.g. women, elderly people, children, and people with disabilities.

  • Promote safe participation in water and sanitation, including the use and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities and services.

  • Identify specific training needs and share them with the supervisor responsible for the necessary support where possible.

  • Participate in the development of monitoring tools for water safety management plan and hygiene promotion activities as required.

  • Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by line manager.

 

 

Assessments and Information Management

 

  • Coordinate closely with Community Committees in identifying maintenance needs for existing WASH infrastructure.

  • Perform accurate needs assessments and report outcomes to line manager.

  • Participate in preparing technical assessments and bills of quantities for WASH Activities

     

MEAL and Reporting

 

  • Support in collecting and organizing information on progress of all aspects of rehabilitation and hygiene promotion activities ensuring information is disaggregated by gender and age (men, women, boys and girls).

  • Support the documentation related to hygiene promotion activities and distributions, including reviewing beneficiary lists, and post distribution monitoring reports, as needed.

  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports as requested by WASH Program Assistant verbally on written.

  • In collaboration with the WASH team and MEAL team, monitor the impact of the program activities on the beneficiaries.

  • Fully participate in any learning reviews, ensuring that final recommendations are shared with the relevant team members and eventually incorporated into program activities.

  • Provide regular updates to WASH Program Assistant and team on progress, priorities, and constraints, both verbally and in written form.

  • Represent the org to local partners, governmental and non-governmental groups as requested.

  • Coordinate with all our organization teams to identify and implement integrated responses when applicable.

 

 

  • Engineering certificate ( civil ,mechanic, electricity ) or engineering diploma.
  • Previous experience in WASH programing at least 2 years in similar positions.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in rehabilitation activities (water stations and facilities) with International NGO.
  • At least 1 year’s experience in Hygiene promotion activities with International NGO.
  • Exposure to northeast Syria programming a plus.
  • Good knowledge of water quality monitoring standards
  • Ability to conduct FRC tests adding chlorine (aqua tabs) Possibly including water stations.
  • Experience in working in multicultural environments is a plus.
  • An ability to present concise reports, reflecting the problems and possible solutions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to work effectively under stress in emergency situations
