The role of the FSL worker/business mentor is to support the implementation of SME activities. S/he will be responsible for community mobilization, planning and execution of business mentoring program, performance monitoring of women SMEs, investment monitoring and data collection. The role of Business Mentor/s is to mentor and coach 80 women entrepreneurs operating in Areesha sub-district of Northeast Syria. S/he is responsible for developing the mentorship activity plan and its overall implementation over four months. Each mentor is expected to mentor up to 25 participants or may more  following the mentors ship activity plan. S/he is also expected to conduct monitoring visits to participants’ locations according to the approved monitoring plan, as needed.  Business mentors should prepare and present mentoring materials for each session. S/he is responsible for proving regular updates on the progress, issues, changes and solutions to FSL team. He/she will be reporting to SME FSL SME and VT program Officer.

Problem Identification and Mentorship Action Plan Development

 

  • Identify bottlenecks hindering the development of both the entrepreneur and the business 

  • Review the proposed mentorship activity plan and develop a comprehensive implementation plan for mentoring including mentoring approach, activities, implementation steps and visit schedule for each assigned participant (approximately 25 participants/ mentor).

  • Assist to develop project work plans with support of his/her supervisor.

  • Share his/her field experience with supervisor for implementation of project activities

  • Ensure that work procedures and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) are understood and being carried out throughout the implementation

  • Support FSL officer to review project work plans on a regular basis to ensure implementation is on track with agreed work plans.

  • Support all the activities cycles, registration, verification, Beneficiaries selection, implementation, following up, monitoring and closing for all FSL SME and apprenticeship activities. 

  • Support in FSL activities material distribution, handover and other tasks as required by supervisors

  • Create relevant 1-to-1 meeting plans to provide planed support to the mentee (e.g. finding useful resources and opportunities, making networking connections; etc) and jointly agree achievable action plans, and review and track progress with them.

  • Maintain key field related activities documents in electronic and paper files (training materials, beneficiary lists, selection criteria)

  • Beneficiaries’ registration of Business at local community through shared registration form when needed.

  • Facilitate training and awareness sessions for business owners.

  • Provide the technical consultation when needed and participate in preparing training manuals.

     

Provision of Mentoring Phase

 

  • Conduct 12 sessions over four months on the pre-agreed topics on business management, business development plan, marketing strategy, and financial planning over four months and provide ongoing mentorship support to the assigned cohort of participants.

  • Present a written program resource per session (mentoring materials, a written business growth plan, marketing strategy, financial projects etc).

  • Attend weekly meetings with FSL Team to update on progress, issues, challenges and solutions.

  • Conduct monitoring visits to participant’s locations according to the approved monitoring plan, as needed, and conduct feedback from beneficiaries.

  • Conduct field monitoring and post-activity follow up. 

  • Responsible for accuracy of data entry during data collection at field level.

  • Update databases of the businesses and provide information for assigned projects in line with the MEAL plans designed jointly with the MEAL department.

 

Business to Business Networking and Graduation Phase

 

  • Facilitate B2B meetings and other practical activities (roundtable discussions, guest speakers, field trips/ business tours) together with FSL team. 

  • Facilitate a graduation ceremony for the selected cohort of mentees.

  • Prepare the final consultancy report reflecting results, challenges, lessons learned, recommendations and success stories.

  • Collection of field information by sharing best practices, lessons learned, beneficiary interviews, case studies and capturing field photos/videos with strong guidelines from supervisor and share them with the supervisor.

  • participate in pre-Market assessment and preparation of BOQas required . 

  • He\she will be responsible for facilitating the community committee work and attending the regular meeting with community committee members as the organization representatives.

 

Reporting

 

  • Prepare and submit internal monthly reports.

  • Provide the information and data needed for completing the ITT. 

  • Review and validate partner inputs in monthly reports to ensure accuracy and timelines.

  • Upload all projects related documents to SharePoint.

  • Sharing of weekly and monthly progress information with supervisor and provide regular reports

  • At least university degree in business administration, economics, public policy , management, public administration business management or other related fields.
  • Ability to present concise reports, reflecting the problems and possible solutions.
  • Experience in relevant field with local or INGO is advantage.
  • Experience in FSL activities including value chains restoration, community development, cash transfers, SME development, business plan development and other livelihoods interventions
  • Previous experience in similar role with other organizations.
  • Fluency in written, spoken Arabic and good English is advantage.
  • An ability to present concise reports reflecting problems and possible solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have proved experience in providing mentoring and business development services for micro- businesses or women capacity building .
  • A sound understanding of the importance of women economic empowerment
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of business performance is highly preferred.
  • A sound understanding of market system in which women SMEs are operating
  • Good computer program skills (Excel, word, power point) is advantage
  • An ability to work effectively under stress in emergency situations
  • Exposure to northeast Syria programming
  • Experience working on electronic data (e.g. using excel sheet on laptop)
