POSITION SUMMARY: The Social Counselor will work under the Protection Program to support the identification of vulnerable cases and their personnel requiring assistance, or those at risk, and deliver counselling and support programs, including survivors of critical incidents, by providing assistance as appropriate, such as individual counselling sessions, group trauma counselling, team-building activities, referral to relevant sectors. Deliver capacity building activities on PSS, and Psychosocial first aid to project staff.
This is a local role; no expat benefits will be provided.
Supervisory level: Protection
Direct Support & Counseling
· Provide individual and group counseling sessions for women, girls, and other vulnerable groups.
· Provide age-appropriate activities and psychosocial support to all cases identified and referred by project team ensuring strict adherence to the core GBV guiding principles (safety and security, confidentiality, respect).
· Provide direct emotional and psychosocial support to women and girls.
· Maintain confidentiality and apply gender-sensitive approaches.
· Offer information, support, and counseling on the best course of action during sessions.
Team Management
· Supervise and mentor social workers, ensuring adherence to protection standards.
· Coordinate team activities and provide technical guidance.
· Provide guidance to the team who facilitate the emotional support groups.
Community Engagement
· Build positive relationships with communities and promote participation.
· Organize awareness sessions on protection, health, hygiene, and nutrition
Capacity Building
· Deliver training on PSS, psychosocial first aid, crisis management, and stress management.
· Mentor beneficiaries in developing independent living skills.
· Participate in Blumont capacity building activities, workshops and events.
· Develop and deliver training activities on crisis and stress management, conflict resolution and related relevant topics.
· Mentor and educate cases in developing independent living skills and values.
· Provide support on overall wellbeing and PSS to beneficiaries, staff and for the whole program.
· Identify factors that create stress for personnel and develop appropriate measures and programmes, either internal or external, to address such situations.
Case Management & Referral
· Identify and refer cases to appropriate services.
· Document identification, analysis, and response using provided tools.
· Formation of mobile teams in emergency situations to provide support.
· Ensure equity in protection (gender, child protection, disability) by focusing on the Most Vulnerable.
Reporting & Planning
· Contribute to drafting program reports and monitoring tools. Prepare monthly plans and daily activity reports.
· Document the process of identification, analysis, response, and evaluation using the tools provided by the Protection Program Manager.
· Preparing the monthly plan and the daily report and delivering it to the protection coordinator and protection program manager.
· Ensure that Blumont age, gender and diversity approach to protection is consistently applied through community - based protection methods.
· Complete monthly activity reports and develop and maintain work plans to achieve activities.
Travel Requirements:
· Position is based in Deir-ez-Zor with frequent travel to field programming sites within Raqqa governorate. Ad hoc travel to other programming sites throughout northern Syria
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or any relevant field.
· Minimum 3 years in related experience in a similar field.
· Experience in providing counselling and psychological support in humanitarian emergency settings is desirable.
· 3 years of proven work experience as a social counselor.
· Working knowledge of social theories and practices.
· Social perceptiveness and empathy
· Strong computer literacy and numeracy skills, and experience with office software packages (MS Word, Excel).
· Fluency in written and spoken Arabic; working proficiency in written and spoken English is an asset.
