The Barbering Trainer will be responsible for delivering high-quality training sessions in the barbering profession to targeted beneficiaries, with the aim of developing their technical skills, increasing their employment opportunities, and supporting their pathway toward achieving sustainable income. The trainer will provide both theoretical and practical training while adhering to protection standards, health and safety procedures, and the organization’s training guidelines.

Training Delivery:

  • Deliver theoretical and practical training sessions in barbering (hair cutting, shaving, beard grooming, hair care, etc.).

  • Ensure that sessions are interactive, learner-centered, and meet the needs of different groups.

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging training environment.

Curriculum and Planning:

  • Develop lesson plans, training schedules, and learning materials in line with the organization’s vocational training framework.

  • Integrate basic life skills (customer service, communication, hygiene, work ethics).

Guidance and Supervision:

  • Demonstrate practical skills and directly supervise trainees to ensure proper use of tools and techniques.

  • Monitor each trainee’s progress and provide constructive feedback.

Occupational Health and Safety:

  • Explain safe use of chemical products (dyes, creams, beauty products).

  • Ensure that all training activities comply with health, hygiene, and safety standards, including proper sterilization and cleanliness of tools and workspace.

  • Promote correct practices in sterilization, tool maintenance, and personal protective measures.

 

 

Reporting and Follow-up:

  • Record attendance and regularly evaluate trainee performance.

  • Prepare periodic work reports.

  • Submit regular reports on training progress and needs.

Community Engagement and Employment Linkages:

  • Introduce trainees to job opportunities in beauty salons or starting their own businesses.

  • Train them on customer service and dealing with clients.

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the context and how to engage with adolescents.

Motivate trainees to pursue employment or self-employment after graduation

  • Education: Certificate or diploma in barbering/hairdressing (or proven practical experience).

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year related experience as a barber, with at least 1 year in training/mentoring considered an added advantage.

  • Strong technical skills in modern barbering techniques and methods.
  • Ability to deliver structured training to groups of youth and adults.
  • Good communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to child protection, gender equality, and inclusion policies.
  • Languages: Proficiency in the local language; English is an asset.
