People in Need (PIN) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1992 in the Czech Republic. For over 30 years, PIN has delivered relief and development assistance in more than 40 countries worldwide. Since 2012, PIN has been operational in Syria, providing humanitarian and early recovery support to conflict-affected communities in. the Whole of Syria (WoS) structure, PIN implements integrated programs across Syria through coordinated field offices. PIN’s programs focus on Emergency Food Assistance, WASH, Education, Civic Participation and Empowerment, and Early Recovery and Livelihoods

 

Position Summary:

The Education Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day technical supervision and quality implementation of PIN education activities across Temporary Learning Centres (TLCs), schools, returnee centres, and other learning spaces. The position ensures that all education interventions—including Formal Education support, NFE, Bridging Programmes, Catch-up Classes, Remedial Education, Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN), and integrated PSS activities—are implemented according to organizational standards, donor requirements, and Ministry of Education guidance where applicable.

The Education Assistant plays a key role in maintaining education quality by conducting regular field monitoring, coaching teachers and PSS facilitators, organizing capacity-building activities and learning circles, mentoring education staff, identifying performance gaps, and supporting continuous professional development. The position contributes to ensuring that children have access to safe, inclusive, protective, and high-quality learning environments while strengthening the technical capacities of frontline education personnel.

The Education Assistant works closely with Education Junior Officers, Education Officers, MEAL, Child Protection, and Protection team to ensure effective programme implementation and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 80% field-based and 20% office-based.
  • Frequent travel to project locations, including schools, Temporary Learning Centres (TLCs), returnee centres, and other education facilities.
  • Regular field visits are required to conduct supervision, coaching, mentoring, monitoring, and quality assurance activities.
  • The position may require travel to remote or hard-to-reach locations based on programme needs.


 

Technical Supervision and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular supervision visits to TLCs, schools, returnee centres, and other learning spaces.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching, facilitation, classroom management, learner participation, and lesson delivery.
  • Ensure education activities are implemented according to approved curricula, lesson plans, methodologies, and implementation guidelines.
  • Supervise implementation of:
    • Formal Education support
    • Non-Formal Education (NFE)
    • Bridging Programmes
    • Catch-up Classes
    • Remedial Education
    • Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN)
    • Early learning activities where applicable
    • Integrated PSS and SEL activities
  • Ensure learning activities follow approved schedules and work plans.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations using approved monitoring tools.
  • Provide immediate constructive feedback to teachers and facilitators following observations.
  • Follow up on action plans to improve teaching quality.
  • Ensure education standards, safeguarding requirements, and PIN organizational policies are consistently applied.
  • Identify implementation gaps and recommend corrective actions.

 

2. Coaching, Mentoring and Capacity Building

  • Provide continuous coaching and mentoring to teachers, PSS facilitators, supervisors, and education volunteers.
  • Organize regular learning circles and peer-learning sessions.
  • Support implementation of teacher professional development plans.
  • Facilitate refresher trainings and on-the-job coaching sessions.
  • Identify individual capacity gaps and recommend targeted technical support.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching methodologies through model lessons where appropriate.
  • Support newly recruited education staff during induction and orientation.
  • Promote child-centred, participatory, inclusive, and learner-focused teaching practices.
  • Support integration of SEL and PSS into classroom activities.
  • Encourage reflective teaching practices and continuous professional learning.

 

3. Programme Implementation

  • Ensure timely implementation of planned education activities.
  • Monitor daily programme implementation against activity plans.
  • Support establishment and organization of learning spaces.
  • Ensure learning materials are properly used, stored, and maintained.
  • Support classroom scheduling and learner allocation.
  • Ensure PIN education activities are delivered according to donor and organizational requirements.
  • Fill temporary staffing gaps when necessary to ensure uninterrupted learning.
  • Provide direct facilitation support during emergencies or staff absences.
  • Support PIN education activities during rapid response and emergency interventions.

 

4. Child Protection, Inclusion and Safe Learning Environment

  • Ensure PIN learning environments remain safe, inclusive, gender-sensitive, and child-friendly.
  • Monitor compliance with safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Identify and report child protection concerns through PIN established referral pathways & Accountability channels.
  • Promote positive discipline and non-violent classroom management.
  • Ensure equitable participation of girls, boys, children with disabilities, returnee children, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Monitor classroom safety, accessibility, and protection risks.
  • Support implementation of inclusive education approaches.

 

5. Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

  • Conduct routine field monitoring visits according to supervision plans.
  • Verify learner attendance, teacher attendance, and classroom records.
  • Ensure accurate completion of attendance sheets, lesson records, and monitoring tools.
  • Prepare regular field monitoring reports.
  • Document classroom observations and coaching sessions.
  • Monitor learner progress and identify children requiring additional academic support.
  • Support collection of education indicators and programme data.
  • Assist in baseline, endline, assessments, surveys, and learning evaluations.
  • Verify data quality before submission.
  • Report implementation challenges and recommend practical solutions.

 

6. Community Engagement

  • Support caregiver engagement activities.
  • Organize parent meetings and awareness sessions.
  • Participate in Back-to-Learning Campaigns.
  • Strengthen communication between schools, communities, caregivers, and project teams.
  • Support enrolment and retention campaigns.
  • Promote community participation in PIN education activities.
  • Coordinate with School Management Committees and local education stakeholders where appropriate.

 

7. Human Resources and Staff Support

  • Monitor daily attendance of Education centers’  staff.
  • Verify leave requests and attendance records.
  • Provide technical input into staff performance reviews.
  • Support identification of staff development needs.
  • Report staffing gaps to the Education Junior Officer.
  • Support orientation of newly recruited teachers and facilitators.
  • Monitor compliance with PIN organizational policies and PIN Code of Conduct.
  • Promote professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.

 

8. Administrative Support

  • Support distribution and tracking of educational materials.
  • Monitor proper use and storage of learning supplies.
  • Verify inventories within assigned learning sites.
  • Support logistical arrangements for trainings and education events.
  • Maintain organized programme documentation.


 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Sciences, English, Arabic, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Sciences, or another relevant discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum two years of experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE), education programmes, or Education Centre’s supervision.
  • Previous experience supervising teachers or facilitators is highly desirable.
  • Experience in teacher coaching, mentoring, or capacity building is an asset.
  • Experience working with NGOs is preferred.

Child Safeguarding

The position holder must ensure that all interactions with children are safe, respectful, inclusive, and in line with PIN organizational safeguarding procedures.
