  • Planning and implementation of Nutrition activities

  • Ensures that Nutrition program is implemented according to protocol and guidelines i.e., application of the admission and discharge criteria, closely monitors and strictly follows with cases.

  • Works with the Nutrition assistants to ensure PLW, children under 5 and adolescents receive proper care and assistance and referral when required.

  • Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, guidelines, and SOP for program implementation at Nutrition Center level.

  • Ensures Nutrition staff receive adequate training on various topics and facilitate basic/refresher trainings, workshops, and review meetings to support their professional development

  • Conducts regular checklist based supportive supervision on targeted nutrition centre.

  • Facilitates joint monitoring visits /joint supportive supervisions/ in collaboration with Nutrition Coordinator and Nutrition Specialist.

  • Generates and shares supervision reports and feedbacks with Nutrition Coordinator and follows and ensures, action is taken by all responsible parties on gaps identified during supervision. 

  • Participates in community sensitization and mobilization activities to increase awareness about proper nutrition practices and improve the nutritional status of the target population.

  • Maps the available services in targeted location, update service mapping accordingly and share with relevant staff.

  • Ensure adequate availability of nutrition supplies, materials and equipment, input into creation and maintenance of a monthly distribution plan and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned with Nutrition project coordinator and logistics team.

  • Plan and organise nutrition centre at designated distribution sites as well as updating and following up the implementation of the program management tools (DIP, PP, RP, .etc) in coordination Nutrition Coordinator

  • Compile and review weekly/monthly reports and trackers from different centres, ensuring they match centre records. Report any discrepancies to the line manager promptly and provide updates when needed.

  • Monitor the situation and promptly report any problems, challenges, or concerns in the implementation to the Nutrition Coordinator. Collaborate with teams to identify solutions, and work with the coordinator to make joint decisions on modifying activities to meet needs and reach targets.

  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Coordinator to ensure that the budget forecast and work plan are being followed.

  • Control and facilitate vehicle movement within the project area in the field,

  • Compile activity reports including weekly project data

  • Work closely with MEAL Officer to ensure data quality and accuracy.

  • Performs other related tasks as required.

  • Responsible for line management of the Nutrition Assistant(s).

  • Follow up staff attendance, leaves, and coverage during leave for the staff under his/her supervision. 

  • Ensure regular feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process when needed.

  • Support disciplinary measures application if needed.

  • Follow up on Educators recruitment, contract, and payment. 

  • Lead the recruitment process for field team.

  • In agreement with line manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).

 

Essential:

  • A candidate with medical background (doctor, pharmacist, nurse or other medical background) or at least two years of work in nutrition.

  • Knowledge of child nutrition, with focus on infant and young child feeding practices, like breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and a willingness to learn;

  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and supporting optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding.

  • Excellent communication and counselling skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all beneficiaries and their carers

  • Capacity to keep accurate records of activities and report in a timely manner

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team; 

  • Highly motivated, active, self-starter who can take initiative.

  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in the school and community.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills, and capacity to maintain relations with community leaders, community member members, children and youth.

  • Strong understanding of the situation of children (girls and boys) in rural and urban communities.

  • Excellent understanding of the complexity of local governance structures in NE Syria and other local stakeholders

  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources.

  • Strong Arabic/English skills, written and spoken. Kurdish is an advantage

  • Commitment to and understanding of NGO’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches

  • Computer skills( Words, excel, outlook)

  • English, written and spoken

  • Proven experience in counselling or community awareness raising   

  • Qualification as a trainer of trainers in breastfeeding counselling

  • Familiarity with the Operational Guidance on IYCF-E and SPHERE standards
