The internship is based in Amuda, NES (North-East Syria), with potential travel to nearby field locations as needed.

  • Strong interest in humanitarian and development work, especially in programs that focus on:
    • Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL)
    • Protection (SGBV and Child Protection)
    • Legal Aid
    • Countering/Preventing Violent Extremism (CVE/PVE)
    • Social Cohesion, Dialogues, and Peacebuilding
    • Mine Action (NTS, Hazard Marking, EORE
  • Proficiency in Kurdish and Arabic (English is an advantage).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork, and eagerness to learn.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles, inclusion, and continuous personal development.

General description: Under the direct supervision of their assigned departmental heads each intern will dedicate 80% of their time to supporting the Programs Unit and 20% to the MEAL Department, contributing to the smooth implementation, monitoring, and documentation of NPA Syria’s integrated projects.

 

Key Responsibilities – Programs Unit (80%):

  • Support the implementation of integrated programs across FSL, Protection, SGBV, Child Protection, Legal Aid, CVE/PVE, Social Cohesion, Community Dialogues, Peacebuilding, and Mine Action.

  • Work closely with local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), community representatives, and stakeholders to ensure effective and inclusive program delivery.

  • Assist in strengthening coordination and partnerships with local CSOs, including follow-up on their activities and capacity-building initiatives.

  • Participate in organizing community dialogues, awareness sessions, and peacebuilding events.

  • Assist in logistics and administrative tasks for field-based activities, including NTS, hazard marking, and EORE.

  • Draft simple activity updates, document success stories, and assist with report inputs.

  • Maintain both soft and hard copies of program-related documentation, including attendance sheets and field reports.

  • Accompany program staff during field visits to gain practical exposure to partner-led program implementation.

  • Prepare meeting notes and support follow-up actions for program-related meetings.

 

Key Responsibilities – MEAL (20%):

  • Assist in field data collection for post-activity monitoring, beneficiary feedback, and surveys.
  • Support data entry, cleaning, and updates of MEAL trackers and activity databases.
  • Help in preparing and organizing monitoring tools and learning sessions.
  • Contribute to basic data analysis and preparation of short reports based on MEAL findings.
  • Participate in documenting lessons learned and supporting quality assurance measures.

 

Mentorship and Capacity Building:

  • Interns will work closely with Senior Officers, Program Coordinators, and local CSO partners, receiving structured mentorship and coaching on project management, community engagement, and partnership building.
  • Regular feedback sessions will be conducted to help interns build professional skills and knowledge in areas such as program cycle management, monitoring and evaluation basics, and field coordination.
  • Training opportunities (if available) within NPA and partner CSO operations will be accessible to interns to enhance their technical understanding and career readiness.

 

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to have:

  • Gained practical experience in integrated program delivery, including working with local CSO partners across FSL, Protection, Child Protection, Legal Aid, and peacebuilding activities.

  • Improved skills in data collection, reporting, and basic monitoring & evaluation methods.

  • Learned about community engagement, partnership coordination, and humanitarian project cycles.

  • Acquired hands-on experience with mine action-related activities (NTS, EORE, hazard marking).

Reference is made to the NPA Regulation for Delegation of Authority, Quality Management and Guidelines for the NPA Amuda Office Office.

Must have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or currently enrolled) in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Political Science, Human Rights, Statistics, or other relevant fields.
  • Previous volunteering or community engagement experience with NGOs, youth initiatives, or advocacy for women’s and children’s rights is an asset.
  • Proficiency in English, Arabic, and Kurdish, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with MS Office applications, including Excel.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to perform well in a team.
  • Understanding of the socio-political context of Syria, particularly in NES.

  • Strong communication, networking and interpersonal skills
