General Position Summary
The Safeguarding Officer will support the integration and implementation of Mercy Corps’ Safeguarding Core Standards in Syria programming to reduce risks of harm to program participants, particularly children and vulnerable adults. The Officer will collaborate closely with program teams, Community Accountability and Reporting Mechanism (CARM) staff, and the Regional Safeguarding Advisor to ensure safeguarding prevention measures are embedded across project cycles.
The role emphasizes proactive prevention, risk mitigation, awareness-raising, and internal capacity-building, while also contributing to response efforts when safeguarding concerns arise. The Officer will act as a key focal point for safeguarding implementation across field offices and liaise with relevant clusters and protection actors as required.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Syria up to 30% travel across Syria, with possible visits to Amman, Jordan and Erbil, Iraq as necessary.
Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
