POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Engineer will work on the essential services and infrastructure stabilization portfolio of a program focusing on stabilizing communities through reintegration support, improved social cohesion, and strengthened essential services in Syria. The role is to support the Site Engineer in the day to day supervision, monitoring, and documentation of civil, mechanical, electrical and general infrastructure works and to assists with site inspections, quality checks, measurements, recordkeeping, and follow-up on contractor activities to ensure works are implemented in accordance with approved designs, BOQs, safety requirements, and technical standards.
Reporting to the Site Engineer, the Assistant Engineer plays a hands-on role in supporting effective site management, maintaining accurate records, and identifying issues requiring escalation. The position does not carry independent decision-making authority but is essential to ensuring consistent field presence, documentation accuracy, and quality control.
Supervisory level: Site Engineer
Site Level Engineering Supervision
· Support the Site Engineer in daily supervision of construction and rehabilitation activities across assigned sites.
· Assist in monitoring contractor workmanship, materials, and adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
· Participate in routine site walks to observe progress and identify potential quality or safety issues.
· Support coordination of daily site activities as directed by the Site Engineer.
2. Quality Control and Safety Support
· Assist in conducting basic inspections and checks to verify compliance with technical and safety requirements.
· Support implementation and monitoring of site safety measures and report observed risks or non‑compliance.
· Assist with basic tests and measurements as instructed (e.g. quantity verification, visual checks, simple field tests).
· Flag defects or deviations promptly to the Site Engineer for corrective action.
3. Documentation and Recordkeeping
· Maintain daily site records, logs, and photo documentation of works in progress.
· Assist in preparation of daily and weekly site reports under the supervision of the Site Engineer.
· Support measurement tracking and quantity verification for completed works.
· Organize and archive site documentation, including drawings, approvals, test results, and correspondence.
4. Coordination and Communication
· Support communication between the Site Engineer and contractors, technicians, and field staff.
· Assist in following up on site instructions and corrective actions issued by the Site Engineer.
· Coordinate with other field team members as needed to support smooth implementation.
· Participate in meetings or briefings as requested by the Site Engineer.
5. Learning and Capacity Development
· Apply guidance and feedback from the Site Engineer to strengthen technical and field supervision skills.
· Demonstrate willingness to learn site procedures, safety practices, and engineering standards.
· Support a disciplined, professional, and safety‑focused site environment.
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field (required).
· Recent graduates with relevant internships or site experience may be considered.
2. Experience and skills
· 1–3 years of experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects in a site‑based role.
· Exposure to building rehabilitation, civil works, or public infrastructure projects is an asset.
· Experience working with contractors or field teams is desirable.
· Prior experience in humanitarian, stabilization, or post‑conflict environments is an advantage.
3. Technical Skills
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOQs.
· Familiarity with construction materials, site practices, and quality control concepts.
· Understanding of basic site safety requirements and procedures.
· Willingness to follow instructions and escalate issues appropriately.
4. Software and Tools (Required)
· MS Word and MS Excel for reporting and tracking.
· AutoCAD (working knowledge).
· Familiarity with site measurement and inspection tools is an asset.
5. Core Competencies
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to work in field conditions and follow structured guidance.
· Good organizational and time management skills.
· Clear communication with supervisors and field staff.
· Fluency in written and spoken Arabic required; English is a strong asset.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
· Deir ez-Zor-based position, with travel to project sites in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, and area of the operation of the program.
